Border Tourism
‘Border Tourism’ has immense potential in India, if promoted and marketed well ,as it gives an opportunity to see the neighbouring countries without actually crossing the border.
Ease of access to zero line; ensuring last mile connectivity and creating activities, including trade, around border towns to facilitate people to people visibility and interaction, wherever possible, can be the key drivers for promoting Border Tourism in Meghalaya and in all border states in the country.
Campaigns like ‘Dekho Apna Aur Padosi Desh’ can be introduced to promote domestic travel.
Meghalaya has a huge potential for promoting ‘monsoon tourism’ in the State as cherrapunji is known for being the wettest place on earth. Emphasis should also be given on fairs and festivals and Meghalaya tourism should create a mega tourism festival on the lines of sangai festival of Manipur and hornbill festival in Nagaland.
It was a pleasure to deliver the keynote address at the webinar in the series ,focused on promotion of Border Tourism in Meghalaya.
My compliments to PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) for launching Border Tourism webinar series with support of Tourism Ministry ,with a view to exploring the tourism potential in the border districts of India and to create awareness about the lesser-known destinations across the country.
